d.i.y. pubs

There's been a lot of talk recently about the demise of Design In Flight. In reading Andy's entry about the three reasons he's no longer going to publish, I was taken back about 3 years. I had this brilliant idea of creating an online magazine devoted to exploring the creative process: Thinking Around the Corners. The grand scheme included interviews with artists from all mediums, guest articles on any topic related to creative thinking and an article from me. I finished two issues.

I found myself spending countless hours researching artists from writers to sculptors to dancers and musicians. I sent out hundreds of e-mails inviting people to contribute. I had one contributor for the first issue. After that, nada. I was more successful in tracking down people to interview. I guess that's a more flattering proposal for most.

The first issue opened with an interview with the big dog himself, Jeffrey Zeldman. Thanks to his link, there was a TON of visitors, and I thought that I'd have tons of people available for contributions. Nope.

So, Andy, I feel your pain in a very first-hand way. Best of luck.
